Position Purpose

At B&D, the Payroll Manager is at the center of our people and financial operations, helping the firm run smoothly while gaining exposure to bigger-picture responsibilities.
This fully remote role is ideal for someone who’s motivated, eager to learn, and excited to take ownership of their work while growing into a broader leadership track over time. Expected travel to our Washington, D.C., up to 4 times per year at a minimum.
Responsibilities
Lead all payroll operations, ensuring accurate, timely semi-monthly payroll processing using ADP Workforce Now.
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations.
Partner with HR to capture all employee changes—hires, terminations, salary adjustments, benefits, etc.—prior to each payroll cycle.
Coordinate with managers to verify timely approval of all time entries.
Manage 401(k) contributions, payroll reconciliations, and general ledger postings.
Oversee ADP tax filings and deposits, and handle garnishments in compliance with legal requirements.
Support year-end processes, including W-2 reporting, third-party sick pay, relocation reimbursements, and other taxable benefits.
Assist with the annual workers’ compensation audit and 401(k) census, coordinating with HR and Accounting.
Respond to employee payroll inquiries and investigate discrepancies promptly.

The target base annual salary range for this role is currently $80,000-110,000. Pay scales are determined by role, level, location, and alignment with market data. Individual pay is determined through interviews and an assessment of several factors that that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to, job-related skills, relevant education and experience, certifications, abilities of the candidate and pay relative to other team members.
