Senior Project Manager

Department: B&D - Sphere Higher Ed
Location: Austin, TX

Senior Project Manager – Institutional & Life Sciences Projects

Do you thrive at the intersection of strategy and execution? Are you a seasoned construction management leader with deep experience in institutional and life sciences projects? If you bring a strategic mindset, sound judgment, and the ability to build trust across diverse teams, we want to hear from you.

We’re seeking a Senior Project Manager in the Austin, Texas area to oversee major institutional projects involving lab, hospital, and healthcare facilities. This person will work closely with B&D’s Assistant Project Manager and broader team, helping lead a high-performing, client-centered program from preconstruction through delivery.

What You’ll Do

As a Senior Project Manager, you’ll take charge of large-scale, high-impact programs, guiding clients through complex capital projects that typically exceed $30M. You will:

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for institutional clients—building trust, providing strategic advisement, and ensuring project success across schedule, budget, and quality goals.

  • Oversee a portfolio of capital construction projects, managing scopes from preconstruction through GMP development and vendor coordination.

  • Bring deep expertise in construction management, procurement, and negotiation, including contract development and GMP finalization.

  • Collaborate with internal team members while mentoring and coaching less experienced staff.

  • Lead day-to-day owner/vendor coordination, ensuring seamless progress and accountability from design through construction.

  • Provide critical QA/QC oversight, risk management, and technical leadership throughout the project lifecycle.

  • Direct and supervise project teams, conduct performance reviews and support hiring and onboarding for project staff.

  • Actively participate in B&D’s business development efforts by contributing to proposals, attending conferences, and cultivating client relationships.

  • Maintain accurate records, manage invoicing, track receivables, and ensure compliance with fiduciary responsibilities.

What We’re Looking For

  • 10+ years of full-time experience in preconstruction, construction management, or implementation-based consulting—on complex, multi-phase projects over $30M.

  • A Bachelor’s degree in architecture, construction management, engineering, real estate management, or a related field.

  • Proven experience working on institutional projects, especially involving higher education, labs, hospitals, and healthcare facilities.

  • Deep familiarity with Construction Manager (CM) roles, including GMP development, contract negotiation, and project team procurement.

  • A collaborative mindset—you can work with and guide internal staff while taking direction from internal leads when appropriate.

  • Strong understanding of construction logistics, scheduling, budgeting, building codes, and delivery methods.

  • Excellent client-facing instincts and sound judgment when managing vendors, external stakeholders, and partners.

  • Strong project control experience, including budget tracking, KPIs, and performance evaluation tools.

  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

  • A valid U.S. driver’s license and willingness to travel several times per month.
